Jauh-Jung Yang, Chun-Hsu Ko, Chih-Ming Tai, Jing-Chie Lin, Jin-Chern Chiou

This paper discusses electromagnetic micro planar inductor which is usually applied on Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS). The design, fabrication and application of three kinds of the designs are discussed here that are spiral type, solenoid type and meander type. The applications of electromagnetic micro planar inductor on micro-motor, micro-driver, microsensor and micro-converter can achieve the requirements of miniaturization, mass-production and low cost; and have the merit of easy system integration at the same time. Especially, its high inductance and Q factors promise the future progress of these micro inductors.

The Applications of Electron Beam Lithography and Magnetic Force Microscopy — Fabrication and Characterization of Nanostructured Magnetic Elements [ 下載 PDF ]

Wei-Tzu Shieh, Jong-Ching Wu

Fabrication and characterization of nanostructured magnetic thin film elements have been demonstrated by using electron beam lithography and magnetic force microscopy. A variety of permalloy thin film elements with various shapes and with lateral dimensions down to 50 nm were made using electron beam lithography through a lift-off process. A magnetic force microscope equipped with a home-made electromagnet was illustrated to image the magnetic domain configurations of the elements at the remanent states and under a magnetic field applied horizontally, in which the magnetization evolution was observed in-situ. Micromagnetic simulations show a good agreement with the experimental results.

The Fabrication Technology of Approaching 110 nm Pits [ 下載 PDF ]

Hsi-Harng Yang, Hsiang-Ming Wu, Shih-Che Lo

This paper describes the experimental method to fabricate 110 nm spot size using the electron beam mastering machine. Try to use experimental parameters and find the trend for making the minimum linewidth of track pits. These can be important information for the high density mastering system in the future. From the experimental results, the fabricated linewidth linearly increases with increasing beam current and developing time, but linearly decreases with increasing linear velocity. In the experiments, the focal distance is an important parameter to fabricate the pattern with minimum linewidth.

The Applications of Scanning Tunneling Microscope in Electrochemistry [ 下載 PDF ]

Shueh-Lin Yau, Chia-Haw Shue, Chia-Huei Yang

Scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is now established as an important tool in the study of nanotechnology and electrochemistry. We describe the use of this technique to study precipitation of nanometer-thick semiconducting lead iodide films from aqueous colloidal on an iodine-modified Rh (100) surface and electrodeposition of copper onto a well-ordered Pt (100) electrode. STM results illustrate that the as-prepared PbI2 films are crystalline. The nucleation and growth events of Cu deposition on Pt (100) are examined with atomic resolution STM, providing an atomic view of the activity of Cu deposition.

A Method for Measuring the Magnetic Field Based on an Electro-Optic Probing Technique and Measuring the Electric Field Based on a Magnetic Probing Technique [ 下載 PDF ]

Kuen-Wey Shieh

In this paper, the development of electro-optic (EO) probing techniques and the system setup are presented. In addition, a novel modulation technique is proposed here in detail. Based on the modulation technique, the magnetic field (H field) can be sensed with a single EO probing system. Similarly the electric field (E field) can be sensed based on a magneto-optical (MO) probing system. Using a single (either EO or MO) probing system, the advantages to measure E and H fields over the conventional ways are also discussed in several aspects. Moreover, this novel technique can be applied to any E or H field probing system, not in particular EO or MO system.

Applications of Solid State NMR in Lithium-Ion Battery [ 下載 PDF ]

Bing-Joe Hwang, M. Venkat Eswarlu, Yin-Wen Tsai

Solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy plays a major role in providing information about the chemical structures of condensed matters. The nature of the local and long range structural information could be obtained by measurement of solid state NMR spectral lines and of nuclear spin-lattice relaxation (NSLR) rates. The NMR instruments found potential applications in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, material science, and physics. Recently, solid-state NMR techniques are applied to solid electrolyte and electrode materials to understand the structure of various composite materials in the atomic scale level. Also, provide information about their coordination, the lithium ion diffusion and various oxidation states (phase changes) obtained on polymer electrolytes or electrodes respectively. In this article, we introduce some NMR studies on polymer electrolytes and electrode (cathode) materials for lithium rechargeable batteries.

Cheng-Liang Chen, Tzxy-Chyi Wang, Shang-Feng Yang

This paper starts with fundamental concepts underlying fuzzy sets, including the comparison between fuzzy sets and conventional crisp sets, membership functions, linguistic variables, and intersection and union of fuzzy sets. Next, this paper, applying the concepts mentioned above, would illuminate the four basic inferential mechanisms and make an introduction to several fuzzy models most widely used today. Finally, washing machines and incinerators equipped with soft sensors and fuzzy controllers will be presented as illustrations to clarify the fuzzy logic theories proposed in this paper.

Ching-Tsung Yu, Jwn-Yung King, Tsung-Yuan Wang

The Low-Level Radwaste produced from nuclear power plant and related research institute were partially Solidified by Cement to obey storage safety requirement. Gamma counting detection limit is confined to the precision of correction technology, this paper describes the technology to prepare the cement-solidified standard drum and use Europium-152 source to do Canberra's gamma waste analysis and correction.
